  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ cup non-dairy milk (soy, almond, or oat)
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp ketchup (for sauce)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce (for sauce)
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup (or honey for sauce)
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar (for sauce)

Instructions

  1. Press and slice firm tofu into four even pieces.
  2. Set up a breading station with flour mixture, non-dairy milk, and panko breadcrumbs in separate bowls.
  3. Dredge each tofu slice in flour, dip in non-dairy milk, then coat with panko.
  4. Heat oil in a skillet and fry tofu slices until golden brown and crispy on both sides. Drain on paper towels.
  5. For the katsu sauce, whisk together ketchup, soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, and spices until smooth.
  6. Serve crispy tofu with the homemade katsu sauce drizzled on top.
