Ingredients

  • 1 large sweet onion
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil in a spray bottle

Instructions

  1. Cut off the top of the onion and peel away the outer skin. Place it cut-side down on a cutting board.
  2. Slice into petals by making evenly spaced cuts from the root down, ensuring to create at least 16 petals.
  3. Allow the onion to rest for 5 minutes to help open up the petals.
  4. Prepare your breading mixture by whisking flour, paprika, cayenne, salt, and pepper in one bowl, and eggs with milk in another.
  5. Coat the onion first in the flour mixture, then dip it in the egg wash, followed by another coating of flour.
  6. Chill for a few minutes while preheating your air fryer to 350ºF.
  7. Spray generously with oil and place in the air fryer basket; cook for about 25 minutes until crispy.
