Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large green cabbage
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 cup cooked rice (white or brown)
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • Italian seasoning blend

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to boil. Core the cabbage and blanch the whole head for about 5 minutes until leaves soften. Remove leaves as they loosen.
  2. In a bowl, mix ground beef, cooked rice, diced tomatoes, onion, salt, pepper, and half of the Italian seasoning until combined.
  3. On each cabbage leaf, place about 2 tablespoons of filling at the base, fold sides over, and roll tightly from bottom to top. Arrange in a greased baking dish.
  4. Mix tomato sauce with remaining Italian seasoning and pour over the cabbage rolls.
  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F for about 1 hour, covering with foil for moisture.
  6. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

– Feel free to substitute ground turkey or plant-based proteins in the filling.

– Enhance the sauce with crushed red pepper flakes for added heat.

– Leftover rolls can be stored in the refrigerator for up to three days or frozen for up to three months.
