  • 2 cups mashed ripe bananas (about 4 medium bananas)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (or whole wheat flour)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9X13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together melted butter, sugar, egg, vanilla extract, buttermilk (or sour cream), and mashed bananas until well combined.
  3. Add flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt to the wet mixture; mix gently until no dry streaks remain.
  4. Scoop half of the batter into another bowl and mix in cocoa powder until fully incorporated.
  5. Spread the chocolate batter evenly across the bottom of the prepared pan.
  6. Spoon dollops of banana batter over the chocolate layer and spread evenly.
  7. Sprinkle chocolate chips generously on top.
  8. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
