- 1 lb dried great northern beans
- ½ lb thick-cut bacon
- 2 large onions
- 3 garlic cloves
- 2 cups ketchup
- 1½ cups dark brown sugar
- ⅓ cup molasses
- ⅓ cup maple syrup
- ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Sort and rinse the beans. Soak in water for 1 hour.
- Drain and rinse soaked beans. Cook in fresh water for about 1 hour until almost tender.
- Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C). Cook bacon until crispy; remove from skillet. Sauté onions in reserved fat, add garlic, then stir in sauce ingredients.
- Combine beans with the bacon and sauce in a baking dish. Cover and bake for about 2½ hours, stirring every 30 minutes.
