Ingredients

Scale
  • ¼ cup warm water
  • 0.25 oz packet instant yeast
  • 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 4 Tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 large egg (beaten)
  • ⅓ cup potato flakes
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • Filling: 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • 2 tsp orange zest
  • ¼ cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • Glaze: 4 oz cream cheese
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp orange zest
  • 2 Tbsp orange juice

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water; let sit until frothy.
  2. Scald the milk and whisk in salt, sugar, and melted butter; cool slightly.
  3. Combine potato flakes with hot water until smooth.
  4. In a stand mixer, mix yeast mixture, milk mixture, potato mix, and beaten egg. Gradually add flour to form a sticky dough and knead until smooth.
  5. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl covered with a towel for about an hour or until doubled.
  6. Prepare filling by mixing sugar, ginger, orange zest, and enough orange juice to resemble wet sand.
  7. Roll out dough into a rectangle; spread with butter and sprinkle filling evenly before rolling tightly.
  8. Cut into rolls and place on greased baking sheet; let rise for another 30-60 minutes.
  9. Bake at 350°F for about 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  10. While baking, whip cream cheese until fluffy; mix in powdered sugar and remaining glaze ingredients.
  11. Drizzle glaze over warm rolls before serving.
