  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 3 tablespoons salted butter, divided
  • 1 box (16 oz) frozen pierogies
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley or dill, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the meatball mixture by combining breadcrumbs and milk, then adding egg, garlic, spices, beef, and pork. Form into meatballs.
  2. Cook pierogies in a skillet with butter until golden; set aside.
  3. Fry meatballs in the same skillet until golden brown and fully cooked.
  4. Sauté onions in remaining butter, add flour, then whisk in broth and seasonings to create the sauce.
  5. Combine cooked pierogies and meatballs with sauce; warm through before serving.
