  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (for filling)
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh herbs (thyme, parsley, or rosemary)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp water (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit until foamy (about 10 minutes).
  2. Add eggs, softened butter, flour, and salt; knead until smooth. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
  3. For the filling: Melt butter in a pan; sauté garlic until fragrant. Stir in fresh herbs and cool.
  4. Roll out the dough into a rectangle; brush with garlic herb mixture and sprinkle with mozzarella.
  5. Roll tightly into a log; slice lengthwise and twist both halves together.
  6. Place in a greased baking pan; let rise for another 30–40 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Brush with egg wash and bake for 35–40 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool for 15 minutes before slicing.
